How to Import and Export Data in Tally ERP 9

Tally ERP 9 is a popular accounting and business management software that helps you to manage your finances, inventory, taxation, payroll, and more. One of the features of Tally ERP 9 is that it allows you to import and export data from and to other applications, such as Excel, XML, or CSV files. This can help you to transfer data between different companies, branches, or third-party applications. In this article, we will show you how to import and export data in Tally ERP 9 using the XML format.

What is XML?

XML stands for Extensible Markup Language. It is a standard format for storing and exchanging data on the web. XML uses tags and attributes to define the structure and content of the data. For example, the following XML snippet shows the details of a customer master:

<ENVELOPE> <HEADER> <TALLYREQUEST>Import Data</TALLYREQUEST> </HEADER> <BODY> <IMPORTDATA> <REQUESTDESC> <REPORTNAME>All Masters</REPORTNAME> </REQUESTDESC> <REQUESTDATA> <TALLYMESSAGE xmlns:UDF="TallyUDF"> <LEDGER NAME="ABC Ltd" RESERVEDNAME=""> <ADDRESS.LIST TYPE="String"> <ADDRESS>123 Main Street</ADDRESS> </ADDRESS.LIST> <MAILINGNAME.LIST TYPE="String"> <MAILINGNAME>ABC Ltd</MAILINGNAME> </MAILINGNAME.LIST> <COUNTRYNAME>India</COUNTRYNAME> <STATENAME>Maharashtra</STATENAME> <PINCODE>400001</PINCODE> <LEDGERPHONE>022-12345678</LEDGERPHONE> <LEDGEREMAIL>abc@xyz.com</LEDGEREMAIL> <GSTIN/UIN>27AAAAA0000A1Z5</GSTIN/UIN> <PARENT>Sundry Debtors</PARENT> </LEDGER> </TALLYMESSAGE> </REQUESTDATA> </IMPORTDATA> </BODY> </ENVELOPE>

As you can see, the XML file has a root element called <ENVELOPE>, which contains a header and a body. The header specifies the type of request, which is Import Data in this case. The body contains the actual data to be imported, which is wrapped in a <TALLYMESSAGE> element. The data consists of a ledger master with various attributes, such as name, address, email, GSTIN, parent group, etc.
